  • The Met Gala Fashions 2016!

The Met Gala or The Met Ball is a major fundraising gala for the  Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. It is the start of the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibit. As one of the most exclusive social events of the year, celebrities and artists from all walks of life gather in formal dress of the years theme. This year's theme was Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology; many costumes, dresses, and accessories alluding to the metallic nature of technology but still had the softness of the human touch and construction - truly blending man and machine.

Zoe-Saldana met Zoe Saldana in Dolce & Gabbana
From ball gowns to frocks, The Met Gala is known for the most cutting edge styles of the year. Each year is more and more innovative and this year is no different. Star work with world renowned designers and artists to create custom pieces to fit the theme. Zoe Saldana definitely took the train of the year (from Rihanna wearing Guo Pei's creation last year). Her gorgeous peacock like train covered in different fabrics and feathers definitely stole the show.
claire danes met Claire Danes in Zac Posen
Claire Danes wore the genius creation of Zac Posen and Marchesa - the Cinderella of ballgowns lit up with fiber optics and 30 battery packs. Though not visible in normal light, the dress beautifully glows in the dark. Designer Zac Posen showed off his creation in his workshop on Instagram, showing the creative process behind it.
Jourdan-Dunn emt Jourdan Dunn in Balmain
Balmain/Olivier Rousteing - another huge designer of many creations on the Met red carpet. He supplied the geometric, metallic, and unique bodycon pieces for stars like Jourdan Dunn, Kylie Jenner, Alessandra Ambrosio, Kim Kardashian, and Cindy Crawford. By combining metallics and mesh, the illusion of metal can be softened. The Balmain army of supermodels did not disappoint.
Willow-Jaden-Smith met Willow Smith in Chanel & Jaden Smith in Louis Vuitton
The Smith kids always make a statement where ever they go. These fashionable teens arrived at the Met gala in structured menswear inspired get ups from fashion houses Chanel and Louis Vuitton. No doubt always a stand out sibling pair, Willow and Jaden came prepared with meticulously designed and constructed pieces.
Blake-Lively met Blake Lively in Burberry
Blake Lively took the more human touch in her gown this year with a flowing blush colored Burberry piece. According to the brand, the dress was made of "blush pink silk organza, accented with hand-dyed and sewn perspex petals."(Cosmopolitan Magazine)
emma_watson met Emma Watson in Calvin Klein & Eco-Age
Emma Watson has grown into one of the leading voices in our generation. She made a statement to only wear sustainable fashion on the red carpet and the Met gala is no exception. Her dress is a 3 piece collection actually made of a bustier, pants, and a skirt/train. Each piece being able to be worn separately on many different occasions. This dress was made of a fabric made from 100 percent post-consumer plastic bottles. The inner bustier uses organic cotton; the lining is organic silk; and the zippers contain recycled materials.
"Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology" Costume Institute Gala - Arrivals Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa & IBM Watson "The Cognitive Dress"
In the age of technology, fashion can evolve into great things, including "the Cognitive Dress" designed by Marchesa and controlled by IBM's artificial intelligence, cognitive computer Watson. The 150 connected LED flowers have the capability to change based on emotions. Designers chose 5 different emotions to display: joy, patience, excitement, encouragement, and curiosity and from there IBM uses the Cognitive Color Tool, a program that uses color psychology, to match emotion to hues. Watson was able to use the tones in tweets hash-tagged with #metgala and #cognitivedress to change the color palettes of the flowers. Theses were just a few of the many gowns displayed at the Met Gala this year, if you had a favorite, let us know what it is!

Don't fret, there is still a way to get beautiful non-conventional hair colors!Check out this hidden color style, business on top, and party underneath. Get creative with the colors underneath, all you'll have to do is pull your up and voila, colored hair!
lavender.jpg Smokey Lavender Hair by @brandonpartin at @mc_salon
Lavender/Grey hair: This is a trend that has been around for a while, from silver to grey to lavender all are beautiful colors to have. This is one of those more damaging styles (especially those with dark hair) as it requires a lot of bleach to lift color to a near white. While many colorists can do this in one go, many prefer several sessions to lift the color gently to prevent completely frying the hair. Be patient, your perfect color could take a few tries to reach, but the end result will be gorgeous!
rose gold.jpg Rose Gold Hair from Sunday Chapter
Rose Gold hair: This new trend is popping up on many fashion bloggers heads! This amazing color is almost like a pink but not quite... the many tones in rose gold makes it super unique to have. This color often starts with medium blonde hair with pastel pinks  or pastel red dyed in. The blonde creates the shiny illusion of gold and the pastel pink blends for a rose gold/copper feel. What hair colors are you willing to try? These colors all take a lot of effort to maintain but the results are beautiful. Let us know what you think of this trend!

This is a questions some of us in the office are struggling with as well. Read on to see some of our favorite pairings and our favorite sunnies for the events. • Festival Season!

In the past few years, "festival season" has not only become synonymous with a time of the year but also a fashion style. Festival style embodies the laidback, fun, boho feel that you get from being at these events in the spring. Of course we want to help you look your best for this season, but first we'll share with you the most popular places to go... coachella Coachella: Located in Indio, CA, Coachella is the epitome of festivals and the inspiration for many of the styles to come. This is one of the festivals that don't adhere to just one genre of music, which makes it perfect for all ages (unless you're camping, then you need to be 18+ unless you have a parent!). stagecoach Stagecoach: Love country music? This is the festival for you. Happening a week after Coachella in the same location, Stagecoach brings all of the country music fans into the desert. LIB Lightning in a Bottle: A truly different experience in festivals, LIB presented by The Do LaB features music, art, yoga, and education. This festival brings a different vibe with guest speakers, interactive art installations, and group meditation. Set in Bradley, CA, this almost spiritual event is as eyeopening as it is fun. govball Governors Ball: Taking place on Randall’s Island Park in New York, this cool affair strives for good vibes from noon to midnight for 3 days. Also an all ages event, Gov Ball is a great place to take the whole family to listen to great music and eat really good food. Check out the food lineup on their website for some seriously mouthwatering options. ec.JPG Electric Daisy Carnival: The mother of all EDM festivals- EDC is the largest, craziest of them all, located at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. 3 days of music non stop from dusk til dawn, it takes quite a bit of preparation to push through. Insomniac doesn't skimp on any part of the production; from stages to pyrotechnics to art installations, every aspect is top notch. OSL.JPG Outside Lands: Taking place in Golden Gate Park, this music and arts festival is gren, sustainable, and very outdoors-y! OSL isn't just about the music though, go and discover local winemakers, NorCal craft beers, food, comedy. Though the line ups aren't quite out yet, we're pretty sure that it won't disappoint. It doesn't matter where you are, east coast, west coast, or midwest, there are plenty of festivals for everyone. With different genres of music, styles of art, arrays of food and drink, you're sure to find an event that is perfect for you. Let us know where you plan to go this year!

  • Sunglasses Care!

Did you know that even cheap sunglasses can last a long time with the right care? Here are some tips to keep your glasses in their best condition! KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA   Cleaning: Most of us just grab the nearest cloth to us (probably a shirt) to clean off our glasses, but what happens is that even with the softest shirt, the fibers are leaving microscopic scratched on the lenses! Ever use your breath? You're just moving dirt from one side to the other. Look for an eye wear liquid cleaner or a very mild dish soap with no added lotions. First, run your glasses under warm water to rinse off the dirt and dust. Use cleaner or soap and gently work it into the cracks and crevices of your glasses, then rinse it off again. Be sure to dry them immediately with a lint free or microfiber cloth. scratch Lens Repair: Many small issues with sunglasses can be repaired relatively easily, a few tricks are all you need to make your glasses new again! There are quite a few ways that you can polish or fill in scratches to make them less visible... Try toothpaste for example! Take the most simple white toothpaste (no polishing grains, no whitening properties, not minty, and not gel) and use a cotton ball to apply to your scratched lens. Rub in the toothpaste in a circular motion for  10 to 15 seconds and then rinse off with cold water. If it doesn't quite fill it the first time, repeat several more times until the scratch is gone If you can't find plain toothpaste, baking soda can be used as well.  Make a paste with one part water and two parts baking soda. Like the toothpaste, use a cotton ball to apply the baking soda paste to the lens in a circular motion. Rinse and repeat if necessary. repair Frame Repair: Unless your frame broke in half, there is probably a good change it can be fixed. Invest in a small glasses repair kit-they usually come with screwdrivers, extra screws, and pins in multiple sizes. This will come in handy if a screw comes loose or disappears! If you need to adjust the arms, the kind of material matters. If your glasses have metal arms, take some pliers and take a soft cloth to protect while bending. As long as the frames sit level on a table, you're good to go! If your glasses are plastic, it'll take a little more work and some heat- however, doing it yourself could potentially ruin your frames. Take your plastic frames to an eye wear professional to see if they can be fixed. KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA Invest in a good case for you reading glasses or sunglasses, it'll help prolong the life of your glasses. Eyewear displays or boxes are also useful if you have many pairs to store (or show off), these boxes are multipurpose and can be used to store anything! We have both available in our online store www.edgeiwear.com.

  • New York Fashion Week F/W 2016!

One of the busiest times of the year for New York City (not that it isn't busy already!) is New York Fashion Week. With the Fall/Winter 2016 edition still in full swing - we've already seen a few things come up as trends to look for. Remember a few weeks ago we mentioned that rose quartz would be one of the big colors of this year? Well, it has already made its way onto the runways but with the most unexpected color as its pair - yellow. Not just pretty pale yellows but bright neons, chartreuse, and golden tones. It brings a fresh outlook on this pastel color that could easily be pair with something more conventional.021316-nyfw-pink-chartreuse We're also seeing many textures like furs, layering with patterns, chunky knits, and fringes.  J Crew especially, managed create a season full of cool layers with a lot of fabrics and accessories.  In street fashion, everyone is wearing fur - and it isn't just because its 40 degrees. Fur makes such a statement in any outfit, the texture could come in play on a hat, as a scarf, on a coat, as a throw piece.nyfw2 What we've really seen this season though, is that layering is everything. From five different tops to create the perfect color combination to using scarves in different places , layering will not only make your outfits more interesting but also you can mix and match easier to continuously reuse pieces! nyfw Have you seen anything this season that you really like - either on the streets or on the runway?

  • Valentine's Day

iStock_000018349947_Small-750x335 Valentine's Day can be very stressful, fraught with gifting and planning dates. There are so many things to be done to make your loved ones feel special on the big day. But lucky for you, we have some tips on how to elevate the tradition presents like flower, accessories, and chocolate to create a different and more memorable experience.

    Chocolates

gift-sets We all expect chocolate on Valentine's Day. But to make it more unexpected, look for different ways to personalize chocolate and make it your own. Example: start your day off with chocolate donuts or maybe spell out your Valentine's name with chocolate-covered strawberries. Or go the extra mile and order a small chocolate cake with both of your initials frosted on it. Rather than just giving your Valentine the expected box of chocolates, keep him/her guessing and surprise them with chocolate in a form that they didn't expect to receive it in!

    Flowers

original_Paloma%20Blanca%20Mexican%20Restaurant-Romantic%20Travel%20Guide-San%20Antonio.jpg Flowers are a given and that is why everybody expects to receive them. One way to differentiate yourself from everybody else is to make the flowers a part of the special event/moment that evening. Example: plan a romantic dinner at your local gardens or decorate your living room at home with flowers galore- rather than just handing the typical bouquet to your Valentine.

    Accessories

va2 Accessories and jewelry are always nice to receive. However this year try a gift other than the generic necklace and earrings. How about sunglasses or watches? Take a look at the new sunglasses styles that we have on our website- ranging from the popular round vintage to the very trendy cat-eye. This holiday we are also offering a special 20% off on all of our products along with free shipping so don't miss out!

    Dinner

romantic dinner Lovely young couple eating on romantic dinner
Dining on Valentine's Day is a given but try to think of different ways you can make it special for your Valentine. Maybe instead of the usual reservation and eat/order there, you can try request special seating at a place that neither of you have been before or perhaps see if they can serve the food (you having already ordered beforehand) as soon as you arrive. There's always something exciting about having something unexpected delivered to you! Especially a thoughtful meal. At home, try to exceed your Valentine's expectation by cooking their favorite meal and decorating the living room. Try to make him/her remember why you two fell for each other by recreating your first date or first time you two met. However you decide to spend Valentine's Day, just remember to enjoy the moment with your loved ones and take the time to tell everybody (not just your Valentine) that you love them and appreciate everything they do for you. Happy Valentine's Day!
